December 2023 TBR

Hello, my fellow readers, somehow it's December. It's always interesting when coming up with monthly or seasonal TBRs because if I haven't said the words, I'm very much a mood reader, and different months or seasons throughout the year evoke different moods for reading. Fall is always in this interesting in-between where I want to read and/or continue the major book releases in summer while shifting into more paranormal, fantasy, or mystery/thriller reads that give you that spine-tingling feeling of the fall season. Winter, for me, is still in that realm because I do still to a degree have an interest in reading all of those genres and more, but I think I am definitely, as evidenced by my current TBR, looking to have most of my books be in a more cozy mood.

So to start, and I should add there may be repeats for some lists such as my TBR games because the TBR deities were somewhat kind to me this month with the prompts I got.

So first for my monthly book challenge books:

  • A book that takes place during a holiday: I've chosen to read a book that came out last year which is How to Excavate a Heart by Jake Maia Arlow

  • Next is a new to you author: I chose The Undertaking of Hart & Mercy by Megan Bannen. This cozy paranormal set in the old west has been on my want-to-read list for a while and I thought it was finally time to give it a try.

  • The next prompt is a feel-good read or reread: I decided to go with A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley, a book I recently purchased and again just from the cover and synopsis gives me that vibes of that perfect combination of paranormal or fantasy meets cozy romance I'm in the mood for right now.

  • And finally to put it simply a cozy read: For this final prompt, I decided once again to go with a recent purchase that gives me all the cozy vibes which is, The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna.
Now for my TBR game, Shuffle:
  • Safe and Sound by E.M. Lindsey
  • Her Name is Knight by Yasmin Angoe
  • North of the Stars by Monica James
  • A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley
  • Hooked by Emily McIntire
  • Meet Your Match by Kandi Steiner
My books for my Book Buying Ban Bingo Board:
  • A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches
  • Don't Want You Like a Best Friend by Emma R. Alban (ARC)
  • The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen
  • Medusa by Jessie Burton (ARC)
  • Wildcat by Rebecca Jenshak
I also would like to announce my first monthly event on this blog: Trope Tuesday. I have a post explaining it, but essentially I'll be choosing a random prompt each month and will be attempting to read books associated with that trope and examining how I think each of the books I was able to read handled this particular trope on the last Tuesday of each month. The trope I'll be reading for December is College Sports Romance. These are the books I've chosen to read for Trope Tuesday:
  • Wildcat by Rebecca Jenshak
  • Meet your Match by Kandi Steiner
  • The Lie by Karla Sorensen
  • Bending the Rules by Mariah Dietz
  • Swipe Me by Ana Shay
So these are all the books I'm hoping to read in the month of December. What are some books you're hoping to read this month? Have you read any of these books? Feel free to let me know what you think of them, but no spoilers, please.

Please follow, comment, and share.
