Current March 2024 Reads
Hey everyone, I know it's been a while since I posted anything but I'm trying to give this another try and be more consistent with making posts.
I decided for my first post back, I going to let you all know what books I've been reading for March.
I've been gravitating towards audiobooks lately, not exclusively, but I've been finding a lot of them narrated pretty well, as well as, I appreciate the convenience of them when I have to take care of other things.
One of the first audiobooks I listened to was A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes. This book has been on my TBR for a while and I'm also taking part in Greek God-A-Thon during this month so I had the perfect motivation when one of the prompts was a TBR vet. I've always been a fan of mythology, as well as, different author's interpretations or retellings of myths. This an interesting book because it explores multiple perspectives of the story of The Trojan War through the lens of the women who have often been overlooked in the eyes of literature. I ended up giving this 3.5 stars out of 5. I thought that the multiple and varied perspectives were a very clever storytelling device. Though I will say because we would focus on someone for a chapter, more so than others, and then swift to a completely different person felt a little jarring at times, I again still appreciated the lens this gave through the eyes of so many women that this author gave more of a voice to than previous works have done. If you're someone like me and either specifically Greek or mythology retellings, in general, are something you're interested in, I would say it couldn't hurt to give this a try.
The next audiobook I ended up picking was one I was completely taken by surprise in the best way possible when you find a book you didn't know you needed to read and ended up completely in awe of by the end. This book is so many things, but most of all it is a memoir of Sam Heughan's life and journey in more ways than one. I highly recommend checking out the audiobook of this book, even if audiobooks are not typically your thing, and even though I didn't do this you can always immersion read the actual book, whether physically or digitally along with the audiobook. Sam Heughan reads it himself and provides some amazing voice-acting moments which are not to be missed. I gave this book 5 stars without question.
This has also been a month of rereads, which I'm not complaining about because they have been some of my favorite reads. Ones that I've wanted to reread for a while so I could annotate my physical and/or digital copies while listening to the audiobook. These are the books I reread so far:
I also finally picked up Godkiller by Hannah Kaner.
This book was all over the internet last year and I decided not to give into the hype. I decided to wait and I was able to grab a copy of the audiobook from my library, gave it 5 stars, and now I'm kinda just ready for more of this world and these characters. I recently picked up an ebook copy of this and the recently released sequel.
