The Woman in Me by Britney Spears
I had a feeling this was going to be an intense read given the source material and everything Britney Spears has gone through throughout the course of her life, but I never expected half the horrific, frankly is one of the only words that come to mind aside from heartbreaking and towards the end hopeful. I listened to this book through the audiobook, narrated by actress, Michelle Williams. If you end up listening to the audiobook, Britney Spears does include a brief message about why she chose not to narrate this book herself. This book starts from the very early years of Britney's life and family's dynamic. It, of course, covers the timeline of her career, and the horrendous trauma she's faced at the hands of people in her life trying to make her do and say what they wanted all to further themselves in the limelight. It just sickens me what was done to her. Through all the trauma and betrayal she's faced in her life, I love how Britney by her own words still somehow found the strength to never give up hope she would be able to find her own voice again. To me, she and this book are living proof even though it doesn't always seem like it when you're in the midst of a terrible situation, you can always come out of it on the other side.
I'm giving this book 5 stars. I hope for the continued success of this book and more than anything Britney herself as she continues to find her voice again.
